Meet the Director

Jorie was born in New Hampshire to two retired Outward Bound Instructors, and gained massive lessons in compassion through her younger brother J.B. (who has major learning differences). She grew into an awareness that she too was a different kind of learner, and luckily stumbled into a High School with unique opportunities that changed her outlook of the education system. This included following the Lewis and Clark Trail, living in Spain, and doing an overseas service project in Jamaica, all before graduating High School. By graduation, she knew that if all students had this level of opportunity, the world would be a different place, and the seed for MYA was planted.

Jorie graduated from College of the Atlantic on the northern coast of Maine, with a BA in Human Ecology, specifically studying experiential education, anthropology and Buddhism and a Senior project building and executing a Youth Empowerment program called “Smooth Transitions” that supported 8th graders in building confidence in preparation for their transition into HS. On her meandering path post college graduation, she worked for Outward Bound in Maine and NC for 10 years before finding herself in Mancos in March of 2017.

She is pleased to be pursuing her love of working with youth and a passion for doing service to the building of Montezuma Youth Alliance.

We are in a space of transition; we have an advisory committee that is supporting us in this space of turnover and shift. If you are interested in joining our committee, or being involved in some way, we would love to you to email us at: MontezumaYouthAlliance@gmail.com. Thank you!
